Thank you for giving us the opportunity to broaden our minds so we can keep up with our patrons and also for making the system allow us the time. I feel that all this knowledge will come in handy not just at work but in my personal life too. I am glad that I participated. I'm also glad that you guys thought ahead and had in position "advocates" to help.
I actually like using some of these services that I thought I would never use. Like Blogspot, I've never kept a journal before and didn't like the idea of blogging about my progress. But now I actually like it because it helps me to remember what I did, liked, and disliked. I think that I just might keep up with this blogging thing. I love taking pictures of my nieces and when my co-workers ask about them I didn't have a way to show it to them because I didn't have a Myspace account. Will now I have a Flickr and a Myspace account and share all the pictures that I have taken. To think I use to hate Myspace...now I'm one of them. I also love the Librarything because people are always asking me what I've read and now I just show them my cataloged books on Librarything. The online applications and tools were really cool and handy. I never knew about them and I am a LTA. I think I spent a little more time then I was suppose to on Youtube. And now I'm a Youtube junkie. Just kidding. It's great fun watching all kinds of things on Youtube, informative or just for fun.
At the beginning I was a little hesitant to do this because I was thinking to myself, how will I ever make time. I also didn't want to sign up for all these services because of the all the info they want you to give them. But as it turned out...most of them only wanted a user name and password. That was easy. I think that we definitely need to keep this kind of training on going as library-relevant technologies emerges because this is only helping us to offer better services to our patrons.
As a LTA, I'm always trying to keep up with the patrons and the world technologically and reading some techie magazine was not enough. Having hands on training was much better. So thank you all for this opportunity and I'm hoping that you all will find more stuff for us to play with. Oh, and yes, thank you for the mp3 player too.
I don't know what to suggest for more training because most of these things were new to me. I hope that other more tech savvy staff will have ideas for you. I will go back and play some more with the other services that were on the awards list and in doing that I hope that I will encounter something new and maybe I will be able to share that with you all. Thanks again.
